Differences Between Australian and Japanese Schools
Differences Between Australian and Japanese Schools
Hey guys these are just some of the differences between my Australian and Japanese schools! I know they don’t apply to all schools but here is a general idea.

| They wear casual clothes | They have school uniform |
| They have squat toilets | They have normal toilets |
| They give you school lunch | You bring your own school lunch |
| You clean the school every day! | Cleaners clean the school |
| School Hours:Starts at 8:10 and ends at 4 – about 8 hours
I leave at 7 and return at 5 – about 10 hours |
School Hours:Starts at 9 and ends at 3:30: about 6 hours
I leave at 8:45 and return at 3:45: 7 hrs |
| Everyone walks to and from school in special groups | Everyone comes and goes by themselves, by all types of transport |
| There’s no food in the morning break | Everyone had a snack at recess |
| Total break time is approximately 40 mins | Total break time is approximately 1 1/2 hrs |
| You wear special indoor shoes inside | Normal shoes |
| It takes ONE HOUR to get to school | It was, like, 2 minutes ‘til school |
| Subjects:Science
Japanese Maths English Computers Sport Art Music Manual Arts (Woodworking etc) Society Civics and Citizenship Home Economics Moral Studies Calligraphy Health It’s just like high school! |
Subjects:Inquiry Based Learning (PYP)
English Maths Italian Computers Sport Art Music |

| Toilet slippers | Toilet WHAT?!?! |
| They have a sports uniform | They don’t have a sports uniform |
| You get a lot of homework | You barely get any homework |
| There’s a bottle of sanitiser in every room | There is no sanitiser to be found |
| There are six periods in a school day | Periods are a humble-jumble and are subject to change randomly |
| At TV in every classroom | No TVs in the classrooms |
Hello Ms Ruby May
Loved reading about the differences between Australian and Japanese schools; think we should immediately import the idea of ‘toilet slippers’ (why ever not?!), twice as much homework, sanitizers in every available corner and DEFINITELY Moral Studies, with a capital M, into the Australian education system!

Wowzers. I mean now since I got to TAFE we go 8:30 to 5 but omg no offense but Japan sounds so strict. I would go insane over there. Plus I’d starve since I’m not a big fan of japanese cuisine. Still it certainly sounds like a experience. and no computers O.o would you know anything about the celebrations and rituals they have in Japan? I’m doing a wonderfully hard assessment on Japan and it’s quite hard. If you get this comment/message and can help me email me at dawn-scarlet@hotmail.co.uk.
Thanks
Lauren
Hey, what school did you go to in Australia? cause for the Australian thing about hardly any homework and no sports uniform I have heaps of hw and a stupid Sports uniform! And school stars at 8 for me!!! and the periods being a humble jumble??? what grade were you in???? sorry if I sound rude by the way.

I don’t want to sound mean but I found some of this information inaccurate, we have sports uniform, heaps of Home work, Tv’s, 6 lessons a day etc. I’ve been to japan and seen the schools, I went to about ten and not even one had a squat toilet and they all wore uniforms. Also how long it takes to get to school depends on how close you live, it takes me 30 min to get to school every day.

i have been researching and i have heard that the japanese have strict school uniforms, but you ave said they dont. im confussed!
Hi
some of your info is not correct about australia I start school at 8:20 and finish at 3:35
also we have a sport uniform and also some people walk to and from school with their friends also I do not learn Italian at school and we have a lot more subjects than that!
sorry if I sound mean but most things there are incorrect!

Hello everyone, as it says up the top this is me comparing the two schools that I personally went to, which is a laid-back Aussie primary school and a strict country Japanese primary school. I know that in different areas schools are different but this is what I experienced, sorry if you had a different experience but that’s not my problem!!
